  • Mental health counselors assess and treat mental and emotional disorders, relationship issues, and life challenges. Through various methods of psychotherapy, counselors work with clients to develop meaningful behavior changes. They offer coping strategies for navigating life’s obstacles and opportunities.

  • Mental health counselors work with their clients to establish goals and develop approaches to address emotional issues, gain skills in coping and communication, improve self-esteem, promote changes in behavior and strive for improved mental well being.

  • The American Psychological Association suggests you consider a time to see a therapist when something causes distress and interferes with some part of life, particularly when: Thinking about or coping with the issue takes up at least an hour each day or if the issues you are facing make you want to avoid others.

  • Counseling can help if you are struggling to work, learn, parent, or keep up at home; unable to handle stress with normal coping strategies; difficulty maintaining a healthy appetite or experiencing significant weight loss; using drugs or alcohol to cope; engaging in risk-taking behaviors; unable to focus; or having difficult with sleep.

  • Counseling can improve communication and interpersonal skills, lead to greater self-acceptance and self-esteem, develop an ability to change self-defeating behaviors and habits, expression and management of emotions, depression and anxiety, confidence and decision-making skills, stress management, problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities, sense of self and purpose, and recognition of distorted thinking.

  • The cost of therapy is often the reason that individuals choose not to pursue care. Although it does require a financial commitment, the benefits can be priceless. The fee for a 50-minute session is $140. The Cabin does offer a reduced fee through the Samaritan Fund for those who qualify.

  • We are out-of-network for all insurance providers. We do offer a sliding scale, The Samaritan Fund, and can provide a superbill for self-submission to an insurance provider.

  • As an “out of network” provider we recognize that cost can be a deterrent. Our Samaritan Fund provides a reduced fee for those who qualify. Since our inception we have provided over $1.75 million dollars in assistance. We remain committed to providing care for ALL individuals. For more information call 317-873-8140.

  • Frequency of counseling sessions will be determined by you and your therapist. Some clients prefer weekly and some prefer every two weeks. This decision is often based on the issues you are addressing, schedules, and financial circumstances.

  • A “meet and greet” lasts 20 to 30 minutes and is free of charge. This provides a way for potential clients to get to know therapists at The Cabin. You can ask any questions you have to determine if the therapist is a good fit for you.

  • We require 24-hours notice for all cancellations. For late cancellations (less than 24-hours), half of the cost of the appointment will be charged. If you have an appointment that is on a Monday, you can leave a voicemail or email cancelling your appointment to ensure that you have cancelled within 24 hours of your scheduled session.

  • The Cabin does have a waiting room. It is The Cabin’s policy that no minor child shall be left unattended in the waiting room. We kindly ask that you bring a responsible adult to stay with the child while in the waiting room or make other childcare arrangements as there is no staff available to supervise them. This policy is to ensure your child's safety as well as to maintain respect for others. We also ask, out of respect to other clients and staff, to please maintain a quiet noise level and to clean up toys or items that were used while in the waiting room.

  • Yes. Please ensure that all consents have been signed and payment arrangements have been made prior to the visit.

  • Our therapists do not prescribe medication. However, once you are an established client, your therapist can refer you the psychiatrist on staff at The Cabin. Psychiatrists are eligible to prescribe medication.

  • You can pay in person with a credit card, HSA or FSA card, cash or check. If you are not using our sliding scale (The Samaritan Fund), you can pay on our website.

  • The Cabin offers customized wellness programs that can reduce health care costs, augment productivity and increase employee retention, providing further support for the correlation between personal health and job satisfaction.

  • You can give back by referring friends and family to us that are in need of therapy as well as donating to our Samaritan Fund. The Samaritan Fund helps provide counseling to those who otherwise would not be able to afford services.
